Garrett Reynolds

Where did you grow up?
I grew up in Ventura, California and went to college in Los Angeles.
When did you start running?
I started running in 6th grade for Balboa Middle School Cross Country. I found my stride in 8th grade when I first started running track for the Ventura Tigres Track Club before I went into high school.
What do you do outside of working at Mile 26/ Future Track?
I am currently a graduate student at UCSB pursuing a Masters degree in Education and am a teacher candidate in secondary science education.
What is your current favorite shoe and why?
My current favorite shoe is the Saucony Endorphin Speed. It is a lightweight performance shoe with a snappy nylon plate that makes it easy to get up on your toes and go, but doesn’t beat up your legs. The bouncy foam makes it feel like you can hold your pace forever.
What is a running goal you have right now?
A current running goal I have right now is to run 13:40 in the 5k.
Why do you run?
I use running for fitness, for an outlet to relive stress, and to connect with people. But the main reason I run is for the challenge of pushing myself to be the best version of myself that I can be each day.
Favorite pre-race meal?
My typical pre-race meal is something simple and light. I normally opt for some carbs like rice or pasta as the main part of the meal, with a side of veggies and a lean protein like chicken.
Favorite Post-run meal?
I will eat anything after a race. Typically I like to treat myself with a beverage and burger and fries or pizza. I think it is important to enjoy yourself a little bit after a long block of hard training and a race.
Advice for a new runner?
My advice for a new runner is that consistency is key. The secret to running is just finding the drive to get out the door and put in the miles on a regular basis. There needs to be a smart build up of mileage as a new runner initially, but even if it is running 1 mile...the more days you can run 1 mile in a row...the faster you will become a better runner.
Favorite Professional Runner?
My favorite professional runner is Galen Rupp. I am inspired by how gritty and resilient he has shown to be after multiple injuries and surgeries, yet continuing to be one of the top runners in the world.
What is your favorite running event that you have completed?
My favorite running event was NCAA Cross Country Nationals in Terre Haute, IN.
